April Foolin’

Just a few days ago, the year’s greatest holiday came and went – April Fools Day.  Throughout my time at Thacher, I’d never really understood why people liked April Fools so much.  Yes, the pranks were clever, but I never quite got the hype.  This year, I finally came to understand.  Directly after check-in, the more »

Realization

After hosting the first group of second visits, I noticed the simple day-to-day things that revolve around my Thacher life. First, I realize how much I bonded with my class. Coming in September, not knowing anyone, the second visitors made me remember how little I knew about everyone. Second, I realize how much more I more »

St. Joe’s

Community service opportunities at Thacher are countless.  You can help clean up Ojai’s creeks on a Saturday morning, tutor kids during the day, take part in Habitat for Humanity projects, help out with trail work on Sundays, and/or visit elderly homes on weeknights.  Last fall, I started going to St. Joe’s, an elderly home in more »

The Final Countdown

Dearest reader, to fully understand what a Thacher student feels like going into the last trimester of his junior year, one must undoubtedly have either a great understanding of the Europe song, “The Final Countdown,” or must have it playing on speakers near you (don’t worry, I’ve supplied the link at the bottom). My Thacher Bucket List

As my Thacher graduation date is ever looming closer, I can’t help but begin to form a bucket list of things I want to do before I  leave. And in terms of my senior year, I think I’ve already done a pretty good job. This year I have sung in a coffee-house, written for the more »

Bring Out the Experts

It has only been a few weeks back at Thacher and already we’ve had a number of wonderful speakers/ visitors. Frequently, we have speakers of numerous professions give lectures or workshops. I enjoyed learning from visiting poet, Bruce Smith, who taught English classes, recited his poems, lead discussions, held workshops, and more. Another recent was more »

Full Circle

Yesterday, I was walking up from my house to Thacher on a warm spring evening, around 6:30. The sun was beginning to go down, and the Ojai Valley was coated in a soft orange color that matched the blooming orange blossoms that make the valley so famous. It is the spring of my junior year, more »

Bitter/Sweet

As we’re approaching closer and closer to the end of the year, I’m realizing that I’ll have to say goodbye to another class. We have about three more weeks and then we’re officially done with school. I guess endings at Thacher are always a little bittersweet. Excited for the summer, excited for a break. Yet more »

For Now, Four Goals

As I look out to the valley, the sun sets and the night slowly settle in. This week has been a lot about reflection. Midterms grades have been released, and they always cause for looking back. I reflect on my last few weeks here at school. It has been a whirlwind of friends, homework, horses, more »
