The afternoon of the dorm banquet, all the junior girls and the senior girls of the Hill gathered together for eating and laughing and celebrating each other. Sitting at the long table with the other girls in my prefect group, we’re all so comfortable with one another. We smile and laugh, happy to be in each other’s company. I think about our first prefect time together. We decorated T-shirts together and got to know each other better. The prefectees sweetly reflected on our times together and made personal remarks about each of us. As for us prefectees, we decided on a spirit animal for each prefect as a way to describe how we view them and how special each one is. It was also a time to celebrate Ms. Hooper, the dorm head. She is always checking in on us and working to plan fun events. Joyous tears and bouts of laughter characterized the banquet. To me, the banquet does not mark the end of being together as a dorm. We are already together and close. Evenings of eating, laughing, and chatting could be any night. The dorm banquet is special because we thank each other for those evenings. It is not a night of saying goodbyes, but rather saying thank you.
