Yesterday my friend and I packed up our cameras and water bottles and jogged out to the Gymkhana field to capture gymkhana in action. As we arrived we waved hi to our friends, freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, who were boarded upon sweating and excited horses. Country music blared from the speakers at the far more »
Spring Break! Wait …
by Pedro '15 on 02. Apr, 2012 in Pedro '15
The end of the term is coming up really soon, and spring break starts in a few days. I am definitely looking forward to spring break. Enjoying two weeks off from any schoolwork and resting my recovering hip are definitely on my priority list. But, even though I’m excited for break, the winter term is more »
IEA
by Lucy '13 on 23. Feb, 2012 in Lucy '13
This past weekend, the Thacher Equestrian Team hosted their annual IEA show. While the show itself was only a day, we spent weeks preparing ourselves and the horses for the event. Although, we didn’t do as well as we hoped it was a great day. Everyone finds their niche at Thacher and I’ve found mine more »
Riders Test!
by Emily '15 on 22. Jan, 2012 in Emily '15
The Riders Test. It’s the main thing freshmen try to pass during the winter trimester. The Riders Test is basically a test to see if you can ride by yourself, or with your friends. It’s kind of like a drivers license; you take lessons, pass the exam, and you’re on your own. By passing the Riders more »
Aaand we’re back…

On a Sunday, I had the best riding day yet. Out on the Gymkhana field, I played horse tag. The horses flew across the sand, their riders leaning in awkward positions to evade whoever was it. We clumped up into groups and laughed, then suddenly scattered, like that school of silvery fish from Finding Nemo. more »
Passed Rider’s Test!
by Pedro '15 on 22. Jan, 2012 in Pedro '15
Freedom is the key word here. I have recently passed my rider’s test, which is a test on how well you can control and perform important maneuvers on your horse. Passing this test means a lot of things: it means you are a decent rider, it means you are being trusted by the horse department, more »

‘Tis the season to be jolly!!! It is now December, and temperatures are getting to the low 40s. A bunch of stuff happened since the last update. We had tryouts for the winter musical, of which I am still awaiting the cast list. There were a LOT of people who auditioned, and all the guys more »

This year, I am a new sophomore, so for the past three weeks, life has been crazy (in a good way)! Everything is so new to me, but everyone has been very welcoming and has helped me adjust and find my way around. However, it is always nice to find some time to relax. Lately, more »
Pasture
by Adam '15 on 05. Dec, 2011 in Adam '15
Excited to finally see Keno (my horse) again, I walked down a dirt track. As the trees cleared I saw the pasture, dotted with saddles, horses, and other freshmen. I strode past them and came to the corral. My horse stood out, his milk chocolate skin contrasting the golden light of the waning afternoon sun. more »
Riding, Shooting, Singing

Recently, we had Big Gymkhana weekend. Being with Little Jo was fantastic and I am going to miss her so much. At the beginning of the year, I thought I could have practically picked out the gymkhana winners, but you never know until the season starts. There were people who hadn’t ridden before Thacher that more »
