Thacher Southern Night

This past Saturday night, we were able to put on our boots and cowboy hats for something other than a gymkhana event. Instead of going to the barns, everyone was showing up at the Pergola in flannels and jeans to enjoy our very own Thacher Southern Night! The activities included a cook-off, bobbing for corn, more »

Weekend Activites: From Pentatonix to Diamond Hitch

This weekend has been so exciting for students on the Thacher campus! The Ojai Tennis Tournament was going on throughout Ojai and on campus, but other activities went on as well. This Friday night, our director of concerts and lectures, Mrs. Halsey, brought in Pentatonix to perform on our stage.  It was so amazing to more »

Let’s Take a Look: Second Visits

With the current onslaught of second visits, it reminds me of my own. The ability to see the campus and meet all of the kind students made me like Thacher even more. Aside from the physical beauty, everyone welcomed me and said hello.  While I never toured Thacher, I can imagine it’s not the same more »

St. Joe’s

Community service opportunities at Thacher are countless.  You can help clean up Ojai’s creeks on a Saturday morning, tutor kids during the day, take part in Habitat for Humanity projects, help out with trail work on Sundays, and/or visit elderly homes on weeknights.  Last fall, I started going to St. Joe’s, an elderly home in more »

The Final Countdown

Dearest reader, to fully understand what a Thacher student feels like going into the last trimester of his junior year, one must undoubtedly have either a great understanding of the Europe song, “The Final Countdown,” or must have it playing on speakers near you (don’t worry, I’ve supplied the link at the bottom). Which is more »

Birthday Celebrations

This year I am living in Middle School–which is only steps from the the dining hall, classes, health center, and vending machine (what more can you more »

Bonding, Bragging, Dodging

Dodgeball is a tradition at Thacher. By far the most common inter-dormitory competition, Dodgeball is a great way for dorms to interact and bond while competing for highly sought after bragging rights. Tonight, my dorm, Upper School (junior boys) faced Los Padres (sophomore boys). After three great matches it was unofficially decided that LP won more »

Table-hopping

Every Monday evening this trimester, I serve as a Head Waiter at formal dinner. Strictly a job for Juniors, Head Waiting requires that those in the job either give announcements or take attendance at formal dinners. There are ten Head Waiters, two for each of the four weekly formal dinners, and two on reserve. I more »

Glad I Gave it a Shot

This past Friday evening, we as the junior class participated in a class event—speed dating. When our class president announced that we would be holding speed dating in the study hall on Friday, I rolled my eyes, thinking it would be an event that might not pan out. Nevertheless, I felt an obligation to at more »
