Helping the Community

large_photo303515_4036216The other day, Thacher’s community service heads along with their teacher advisor, Ms. Perry, organized a school wide community service day. On this day, there are no classes and every student in the school signs up for some time of activity that goes on to benefit the Thacher or Ojai communities. Last trimester I was fortunate enough to volunteer at the Turtle Sanctuary and decided to go again on this day since I enjoyed my time there previously. I along with Joanna, a senior, and Georgie, a junior,  arrived at the Turtle Sanctuary around 9 am and stayed until 12 pm. Three hours may seem like a long time, but when you are with your friends, playing with turtles and helping out your community, time flies. Community service day was a great idea because it really helped to remind us of the little things that each and everyone of us can do that make a difference. It was also nice to leave the Thacher campus for a little bit and meet some new people. When talking to my fellow classmates about their activity, not one person was bored, sad, or annoyed at the activities they had to do. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed helping others and using the academic day to make a difference.
