The Sequoias

At the beginning of this year, directly after preseason, I embarked on a trip to Sequoia with a group of students lead by Mr.Okpalugo and Dr.Delvecchio. Although I captained the trip,  my duties were very limited because of the responsible, hard working students who were also on the trip. Our group was very cohesive, funny, energetic and  relaxed and we all worked very well together. Mr.Okpalugo is a new teacher, and this trip gave me a great chance to meet him, and I found out that he is a really awesome guy. I had already had lots of contact with Dr.Delvecchio. She was my history teacher sophomore year, and is one of the cross country coaches, but I still got to know her much better than I had before.

My favorite part of the trip by far was Franklin Lakes. Both Doc. D and her daughter, Caroline, had been telling us how great this place was, and it certainly lived up to the hype. In particular, the best part about the campsite was a large rock, where we could go cliff jumping. The water was very cold, but also very deep and the cliff was only about 10-15 feet above the water. As soon as we got to the campsite, we took off our shoes and put on our swimsuits. We quickly checked the depth of the water, then climbed to the top of the rock. It took awhile, but everyone finally chose to  jump off. The water was freezing, but it felt great. Later on, Harry  and I wanted to get a photo jumping off the rock with the sunset in the background. Even though it was cold, we decided to go for it. We climbed back on top off the rock and got the photo you see here – Thacher camping at its finest.
