Am I Still a Freshman?

Hello! I’m in my senior year and there is so much going on at Thacher. Seniors come back to campus slightly earlier in order to prepare as the upperclassmen and leaders of the school. We were all very excited. After camping, classes, sports, and clubs started up right away. Throughout one’s Thacher career, there is increasing flexibility and choice with course selection. Students of all grades have busy schedules, but I love that I can choose classes that interest me. Seniors, most juniors, and some sophomores have the luxury of selecting courses in all five of the core subjects and electives.

Psychology has always seemed fascinating to me and I think it is amazing that I can take a class in psychology during high school. I’m also learning about U.S. government and politics.  Since I’m in my senior year, I’ve done quite a number of college visits and, in my opinion, Thacher courses for upperclassmen are like a freshman year of college, in that we have the opportunity to experience new topics and see what we like or dislike. For some people, there are favorite classes, but for others, there are potential areas of study or careers that we can learn more about and be inspired to explore. Thacher never stops challenging its students. I feel like a senior because I am familiar with the people around me and have added privileges, but I also feel like a freshman with nerves kicking in and so much to learn. Every year, classes become more difficult with a new focus as we, the students, improve. Despite new responsibilities and challenges, I am truly pumped and cannot wait to see what comes next.
