Big Shoes to Fill

zoom_photo252500_3157259Having played soccer since I was younger and growing up watching my family play, soccer runs in my family. It is apart of us, it is a way for all of us to connect. As winter sports swang into full gear I prepared myself to have as much fun as possible on the soccer field. After the first day of practice I never wanted the season to end. Everyone on my team was so supportive, kind and talented in different ways. A few of my teammates and I were even able to play up a game or two with varsity! It was a great overall experience being part of such an amazing team, and  we ended our JV season with 9 wins and 0 losses. Although I enjoyed the JV soccer season, my favorite moment was Varsity’s first and last playoff game. Two other freshmen along with myself played up with varsity for this important playoff game, we played our hearts out but it just wasn’t meant to be. We lost 1-0. The saddest yet most inspirational moment I witnessed was right after the game. We all huddled up in a circle on the field and each upperclassmen went around thanking the coaches and players for all they  have done and sharing fond memories of one another. The seniors all cried which made me sad for them also, it was their last time playing for Thacher. Each senior on that team was kind, supportive, an amazing soccer player and an  all around great person. They each have left an everlasting impression on us of what a great leader should be. The upcoming players have big shoes to fill next year and I can not wait to continue a legacy they have started!
