(Not) All Quiet on the English Front

This year my teachers and classes have been pushing me to achieve higher, and work harder.  As a result, every success is a little sweeter.  My favorite class this year is truly so hard to pick.  Every teacher makes me laugh but also makes me a better student.  I especially enjoy English class, which is very discussion based.  Everyday we come in and sit down at the Harkness table and throw around ideas about symbols, connotations, and ironies from the previous night’s reading.  Our teacher, Mr. Sohn, sits with us at the table as well.  This creates a sense of community in our classroom, and people are willing to share their ideas in the environment we create.  My favorite aspect of this method is when someone throws an especially interesting idea on the table. All of a sudden everyone is relating this to other themes and motifs.  Sometimes it’s as if we are all thinking the same thing!  However, as quickly as it started, it becomes all quiet at the English table, and we begin to slowly build another idea.  I am looking forward to starting All Quiet on the Western Front this week and a fresh flurry of ideas.
