HUSH

While the abbreviation of Honors US History may be HUSH, this class is far from silent. Even though there are only eight of us in the class, there is never a gap of silence in our discussions. In fact, usually, we are all yearning to get our word in! Honors US History is by far my hardest class, but it’s also my favorite class by virtue of not only the interesting material but due to the dynamic gang of juniors and my teacher, Mr. Carney. Instead of taking endless notes on powerpoints or listening to long lectures, Mr. Carney likes to mix it up. We begin each class with a couple “burrito questions” that test our knowledge of historical facts. These questions are called “burrito questions” because the two students with the most correct answers win a Thacher burrito from Ruben’s at the end of the term. Some days we have intraclass debates where the night before we are assigned to a team and we prepare our argument for the next day’s class. Knowing my uber-active classmates, I am sure that the debate will always be ready to go! We haven’t even finished the first trimester and we have had such a great time and have learned so much. I can’t wait for the rest of the year in our not-so-silent HUSH class.
