We Are Always Running…

“FOR THE THRILL OF IT, THRILL OF IT! ALWAYS PUSHING UP THE HILL SEARCHING FOR THE THRILL OF IT. OHOHOHOH! 1,2,3 THACHER!” The girls cross country team sings at the top of our lungs before the race. You could call it a pre-race ritual. It’s my senior year, I can’t believe it, my final season. I’ve been a proud member of the cross country team since my freshmen year. We have high hopes for the team this year, ranked number 1 in state… no pressure! Ha! Although we sometimes worry about not living up to expectations, the team stays a unified unit. We constantly cheer each other on and encourage one another to be the best we can be. This has been the motto of girls cross country. Some people see cross country as an individual endeavor, but we view it as a team sport. We heavily depend on one another throughout hard practices and even tougher races. We acknowledge that we wouldn’t be where we are today if we didn’t have each other. We are a family. It’s ironic that cross country has the best team dynamic I have ever experienced when it’s supposed to have the least. All in all, I’m excited to see the way this season will pan out. It’s a great start to my senior year and I only hope that there is more to come!
