Races, Coffee Houses, and a trip back in time…

Wow! A lot has been going on, including the first Condor League Cross Country race (right here at Thacher), the first Coffee House of the year, and a personal flashback to the Spring EDTs of the previous year.

Last Wednesday, the cross-country team had its first meet, with 7 other schools joining us in the beautiful Ojai Valley for an extremely tough race on the Thacher course. The Thacher course is notoriously difficult and has been known to take out runners physically! This year, because of the construction at Casa, we had to change the course, cutting through the Lower School dorm and shimmying around construction fences, fire pits and rocky trails. It was an incredibly action packed race, and the Thacher team shattered the competition, with the girls placing 7 out of the top 8 runners, and the guys placing 6 out of the top 8. It was also my first race of the year, and it certainly felt good to be in the action instead of the sometimes mindless training that comes with the sport. I’m extremely excited to race again at the Midland School this coming Wednesday.

Aside from that, we’ve also had our first coffee house of the year. For those who don’t know, coffee house is a Thacher tradition where students showcase their talents for the community. It’s always great fun. Me and a few others did our personal spin on David Guetta’s Titanium.

And to wrap it up, my camping trip from last spring met up with the parent who accompanied us, Weston Richardson CdeP 1980, and we revisited part of the route that we took. This was a special, mountain biking EDT, and because of poor route choice, it turned into a 105 mile suffer-fest, where we climbed a total of 33000 feet. Fortunately, this little day ride we did was simply an enjoyable descent down the Chorro Grande trail just off CA 33. It was great fun to meet up with Mr. Richardson again and definitely worth getting up in the morning to ride.

Exciting stuff aside, I’m going to deal with a mountain of work that’s due on Monday. Junior year awaits!!!
