Horses, Poems, and Horse Poems

Christmas is fast approaching, and the campus is buzzing with a kind of energy that warms hearts, brings communities together and puts smiles on the faces of youthful faces.  Although we only had two and a half weeks from the end of Thanksgiving break and the Holiday break, the schedule never fails to keep us on our toes.

The first Wednesday back, the freshman class went to pasture to retrieve our furry friends.  The excitement and spirit was great!  The walk from where the bus drops us and the pasture where are horses are, there lays a stretch of dirt road that we walk.  We shared stories, laughed, and by the time we reached the pasture, we all had arms around friends.  After our amazing ride back to Thacher (seven mile ride!), our English teachers had our class write a poem about our horses.  It was a great assignment, and mine is shown below!

I am sure this new year will bring great times.  This past year cannot be described in words.  I am so thankful for all the opportunities.  I was accepted into Thacher, I chose to attend Thacher, and I started my freshman year of high school.  I could never fully thank everyone who has helped me through the beginning of my journey.  From my wonderful advisor, and my inspirational prefects, I know there will always be a smile and laugh to be shared.

To My…

The golden coin begins to set on the horizon.
You watch it as it waves its last goodbye,
Promising to come again.

The wind flutters around us,
Playing with my hair, and the crimson leaves that sit among the trees.
Wrapping objects in its cool fingers,
And dropping them in a new home.
Making every moment changing, and different from the one before.

We stand together, as equals.
Watching the blush pink, intertwine with the deep orange,
Painting a picture that seizes my breath.

To another soul, we are all but evenly matched.
My strength is but a breeze of wind to your strong, steady stepping,
Yet, you choose for our hearts beat as one.
And like the colors we witness,
We have come together to form an unlikely beauty.

You have never once denied me a sure support.
The Earthy smell that radiates from your soft fur,
Provides a comfort that no one knows.
And your ears, so velvet soft,
The color of cool brown sugar,
Perch back in my direction
To listen to the soft idioms that are released.
Like a small child reaching for the falling leaves in autumn,
You catch them.

I attempt to provide to you, what you give to me:
Acceptance, Strength, and Unexplainable Feelings of Happiness,
But I know I continually fall short with my futile efforts.

You care not though,
For you are satisfied with merely my presence.
A virtue many in our world still fail to acquire.
A crisp fruit from the Garden of Eden I can give,
As a display of my affection and ever-lasting gratitude,
But you do not hesitate to share.
For inside,
I have part of you,
And, you have a part of me.

Thank you,
My friend, brother, ally, teacher.
Like your scent lingers on my hands long after we have parted,
Your name,
Your wisdom and
The beauty of your soul
Will forever remain engraved on my heart in letters of gold.
