Only at Thacher

Bill McMahon, director of admissions, recently collected a list of “only at Thacher” moments from students.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • Taking a moment toward the end of athletic practice to look west and appreciate a magnificent sunset
  •  Picking an orange and eating it from horseback as you come back from riding
  •  Relaxing at the Kern Hot Springs half way through a 75-mile trans-Sierra backpacking trip (and being a three day walk from civilization)
  •  Buying your outfit for unprom at the local thrift store
  •  Cooking with your friends in the commons
  •  9th grade sing alongs on the knoll
  •  Going with your friends to muck and feed first thing in the morning
  •  Faculty favorites movie and desert night
  •  Students and faculty performing at a Coffee House
  •  Taking an unproctored exam
  •  Having a picnic and playing music at the observatory at sunset
  •  Making honey butter at formal dinner to put on bread.
  •  Students thanking their teachers for their class on the way out the door
  •  Laptops and calculators left on the Pergola without fear of theft
  •  The all school student Volleyball tournament and bbq
  •  A perfect afternoon on the gymkhana field riding and playing horseball (as the sun sets)
  •  Galloping up Carpenter’s Orchard or the hill to the observatory
  •  Campfires at the dorms
