Bill McMahon, director of admissions, recently collected a list of “only at Thacher” moments from students. Here are some of the highlights:
- Taking a moment toward the end of athletic practice to look west and appreciate a magnificent sunset
- Picking an orange and eating it from horseback as you come back from riding
- Relaxing at the Kern Hot Springs half way through a 75-mile trans-Sierra backpacking trip (and being a three day walk from civilization)
- Buying your outfit for unprom at the local thrift store
- Cooking with your friends in the commons
- 9th grade sing alongs on the knoll
- Going with your friends to muck and feed first thing in the morning
- Faculty favorites movie and desert night
- Students and faculty performing at a Coffee House
- Taking an unproctored exam
- Having a picnic and playing music at the observatory at sunset
- Making honey butter at formal dinner to put on bread.
- Students thanking their teachers for their class on the way out the door
- Laptops and calculators left on the Pergola without fear of theft
- The all school student Volleyball tournament and bbq
- A perfect afternoon on the gymkhana field riding and playing horseball (as the sun sets)
- Galloping up Carpenter’s Orchard or the hill to the observatory
- Campfires at the dorms
