Riding, Shooting, Singing

Recently, we had Big Gymkhana weekend. Being with Little Jo was fantastic and I am going to miss her so much. At the beginning of the year, I thought I could have practically picked out the gymkhana winners, but you never know until the season starts. There were people who hadn’t ridden before Thacher that were doing just as well as those who had early on. Gymkhana is a wild experience I think everyone should have at least once. Honestly, when else would you have the chance to shoot an air pistol at a pie tin on horseback? In addition to the hullabaloo of horses and dust flying and an unexpected cloudy sky, there was a performing arts performance in the evening. I am not one for performing arts. I tend to get stage fright and lack that sort of creativity. Still, I’m in chorus and we sang ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and a Western Medley. Though not something I might typically be doing, I am so glad I got a chance to be in chorus. Singing, especially in a group, is a whole lot of fun. This trimester there have been drum circles, learning dictation, and working on vocal activities, in addition to learning songs. Every trimester we, freshmen, shift between studio art, drama, and chorus. Getting a chance to try all three was splendid. It was a relaxing, creative way to breathe a little between classes and clear my head through art. During that weekend, I experienced some of the greatest moments of the year.
