A Dose of Home (cooking)

Although the dining hall’s ice cream machine, salad bar, and deserts are quite a treat, a little bit of good old home cooking goes a long way. Whether it is the after school brownies made in the common room kitchen, Ms. Mully’s chocolate chip cookies at Open House, or my advisor’s burritos, homemade anything is, quite often, exactly what I need. When being away from home so much, many students, myself included, yearn for that fresh, out of the oven meal. And luckily, it is never too far away here. Saturday nights are perfect for fresh cookies at the Mulligan’s house, and maybe a little bit of dancing to some old hits in the living room as well. Tuesday nights prove to be a dorm-wide favorite as Mr. Jacobsen pulls out the cheese and tortillas for quesadilla night. And then the occasional advisee dinner every couple of weeks with a full-blown meal is the icing on the cake. So whenever I need just a little piece of home I can always be sure, it’s not far off.
