Holiday Meanderings

Not too long ago, Mr. Mulligan granted us our first holiday of the year. That Tuesday morning, I woke up around ten but stayed under my covers to enjoy the warmth of the sunshine. I caught the town bus at eleven with my friend Sarah. We had no specific plan or goal, except to fill our stomachs and stroll downtown at a leisurely pace so as to not get any side-aches. I wanted to celebrate Sarah’s birthday early so I treated the both of us out to sushi at Hakane, a restaurant down in town. Afterwards, we sampled the Ojai Surplus Store and dug through the racks of thrift stores for nifty sweaters and leather belts. We indeed walked back to the bus stop at a leisurely pace, enjoying the Ojai sunshine and friendly smiles. We headed to the gas station for our last stop to grab a can of Arizona Tea, which we sipped happily under the shade of a big oak tree at the bus stop. We hopped back on the bus at 3:15 to return to Thacher. I spent the rest of my holiday making more bowls to add to my collection, visiting my former horse Sal, and doing some pleasure reading. In short, my holiday was a day of good company, great food, and happiness.
