My first EDT (Extra Day Trip)

Well, this fall was my first EDT (Extra Day Trip), besides Golden Trout with my class last fall, and I am not exactly the camping type. Last spring I stayed back at school with the tennis team for the CIF playoffs while everyone else went out on trips. For this year’s fall EDT I went horse camping up in the Sierra’s. When I reflect on it, this trip was pretty horrible. Our trailer broke down, we all got very sick, we got lost, and one packhorse and one riding horse ran away. But despite all the discouraging events, we were able to have a great time. The only other trip I had been on was an all-freshman trip backpacking in Golden Trout, so it was a much different experience horse camping with upperclassmen. Sitting around the campfire, it was so nice that I was able to get to know some of these people I would probably not otherwise have gotten to know very well. (Even in a small school, you can’t be best friends with everybody.) I can’t believe it ended up being a trip that I will never forget, not because we lost some horses or because our trailer broke down, but because the lasting friendships I had made on that the trail and in camp.
