Stew A. Ring ’52

Stew Ring reports from his home on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii, that he regrets that he will be unable to make this year’s Reunion. At the time of the reunion he will be visiting his daughter, Katherine, in Zambia, where she is teaching underprivileged and orphaned African youngsters English and art. She is an artist with a home in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy, but spends more than half of the year in Zambia. (Check out her art at: www.katring.com. I was very impressed!)

Stew is a very busy pro bono community activist at home dedicated to preserving and protecting the quality of life of Oahu’s North Shore residents by fighting, so far successfully, developers who seek to convert the beachfront lands and gradual slopes overlooking the ocean into a resort community.

Recently he joined his sister in Mobile, Alabama, where she christened the new LCS Coronado at the invitation of the Secretary of the Navy. (In 1966 in Seattle Stew and his sister attended the christening of the previous USS Coronado (LPD-11) by their mother.) After the christening in Mobile, Stew spent some time in the family home in Coronado, the home in which he lived when attending Thacher! (How many of us can return to the home in which we lived in 1950?)
