I’m Chris from Greenwich, Connecticut. I arrived freshman year and I am currently a senior. I found out about Thacher through my brother Stephen, CdeP 2010 (CdeP means Casa de Piedra—another name for Thacher that comes from the ranch it once was).
What I like best about living/studying at Thacher: The friends and experiences I have accumulated over my time here. Friendships here a so strong due to the fact we live together. Growning up in a house of 3 boys, I thought I would have been prepared for living in the dorm, but nothing can compare to living in Upper School dorm. Also the experiences I’ve had, whether it be riding in my first gymkhana or cooking Indian food in the High Sierras on a camping trip, are priceless and I will honestly never forget them.
My favorite class at the moment is Honors US History because because Dr. D (for Delvecchio) has incredible way of making history, a sometimes dead subject, come alive.
People at Thacher—peers, schoolmates, faculty, staff, others—who have influence me positively and how: My friends and classmates have definitely been the most influential. From the classroom to the field they are always there. We learn from each other, push each other, and support each other.
Advice for someone thinking about going away to school or specifically coming to Thacher: Do it. The experiences that I have had while at Thacher are invaluable. The opportunities here cannot be replicated.

We’re back to school and we’ve already been thrown into the thick of things. Senior year has become a juggling act between senior leadership duties, academics, extracurriculars, senior exhibitions, and college applications. This past week, my friend and I took a break from the college applications and our looming homework to shoot some photos for my AP Photography class and portfolio. We hiked up to the observatory above campus and shot a couple photos as the clouds stood ominously in the distance. Getting back outside reminds me why I love Thacher so much. The hills behind campus provide an unparalleled location, where you can simply walk out into the wilderness. They provide a beautiful backdrop to our daily life and another place of refuge from the busyness of Thacher life.
The blossoming of the orange trees surrounding campus marks the start of tennis season. Tennis, coinciding with the return of pool weather, signals the return of the age old phrase, “suns out, guns out.” Yesterday, I pulled on my Nike half-calfs (integral in the establishment of a nice sock tan), grabbed my rackets, and ran down to the tennis courts. Though we lost several important teams members last year, the new team is shaping up to be quite good. We were thankfully able to steal a couple LAX players who are now comprising our 1 and 2 doubles team. Despite initially being coined a “young team”, I think this “young team” will produce some a solid record of wins this year.
