Aloyse Blair Brown ’96

I am the first woman to run for Hamilton County Mayor in Tennessee and am told that my campaign had profound impact on peoples perceptions of local politics, what politicians look like, and who they are. I won the Democratic primary in May with 70% of the vote, but lost the general election in August with 40% of the vote. While I didn’t win on election day… there were many victories. 22,045 people voted for me, and 237 people believed in me enough to contribute to my campaign (including many Thacher alumni). I was endorsed by The Chattanooga Times Free Press, Women for Tennessee’s Future, The Yellow Rose PAC and the Empower Women PAC. My heart is full of gratitude – running for public office was the most engaging experience of my life.
