1982JohnHerzogI had a great time racing an Ironman 70.3 in Pula, Croatia. The race finished inside of a 2000-year-old Coliseum. I think I may have done better if I had not frontloaded my vacation in Italy two weeks prior to the race. Turns out pasta and gelato three times a day doesn’t make you faster on race day.

John, You know… there are 1/2 ironman races closer to home than Croatia. And yes, that level of carbo loading, while awesome at the time, isn’t part of a competitive training table. I was half expecting to see a picture of you, speedo and your potbelly crossing the line. To my relief, you didn’t. Best, Mike

John, I truly enjoyed your journalistic documentation of your ironman on Facebook! I may not say much on Facebook, but your pictures and experiences are inspiring. Your SB photo’s are a nice way for me to see a piece of my hometown area. Fantastic job competing!
