Jim Whelpley ’77

I attended Thacher my freshman and sophomore years, completing my high school education at Piedmont Sr. High School in the S.F. bay area in 1977. I Graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO) in 1982 with a B.S. and started a career in law enforcement stemming from 1980 to 2015. During this time I worked for the City of SLO Police Department, the County of SLO Probation Department and District Attorney’s Office, and specialized in sex offenders (both adult and juvenile) and gangs. In 1992 I moved to San Diego to work for the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of California as a probation/parole officer and retired after a 22 year federal career the last day of 2014. I like to Adventure motorcycle ride and travel. I am working part time for a store that sells police equipment to law enforcement in San Diego. I have never married nor had any children. My years at Thacher were truly memorable. An experience unlike any other education I have had.
