It was great to see everyone who could make it from the class of 1992 last year at reunion. For those who may remember me mentioning what I was up to, I finally made it through the US Senate confirmation process in late July with a unanimous voice vote, and was sworn in as the Republican member of the National Mediation Board on August 19th. It’s a small agency responsible for mediating labor disputes for airlines and railroads (all freight and some transit) and overseeing union elections and grievance arbitration processes in those industries. Here’s the press release from the Board on my confirmation along with my two colleagues who were reconfirmed at the same time. While I work in the Obama administration technically, which should amuse and/or appall anyone who knew me in high school, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell really picked me for the slot. FYI, BART is not part of our responsibility so don’t blame me for that one, Bay Area Toads.
