Summer Summit

June 19-23, 2017

Location: The Thacher School in Ojai, California—approximately 1.5 hours north of Los Angeles.

Program: Through a series of workshops, presentations, and discussions, we will share ideas to strengthen existing capstone programs and learn from each other’s experiences. We’ll also collaborate to develop specific resources and tools that are of practical use to program administrators. Our program is predominantly a peer-to-peer model rooted in the belief that each participant has much to offer to and learn from our interactions. (We encourage you to read the Capstone Consortium’s 2013 Report complete with findings and suggestions resulting from the inaugural Summer Summit.)

Participants: We seek participants from all types of schools that have capstone programs which are academic in nature, involve long-term independent research, and culminate in a formal presentation. We also welcome those curious about launching a new program to join us for brainstorming, networking, resource-gathering, and planning purposes.

Cost: We ask that schools contribute $350 per participant toward the cost of the program. Aid is available if this fee presents hardships.

Housing and Meals: We will provide accommodations and meals for all participants on campus.

Registration: Space in the conference is limited. We encourage you to register as soon as possible by clicking here.

Schedule Overview: Attendees are welcome to arrive on campus on Monday afternoon, with our first session starting Monday evening. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be dedicated to workshops and presentations in small groups, combined with speakers and time to enjoy Ojai. On Friday morning, we will convene as a large group to share conclusions and finalize a set of best practices. Breakfast and lunch will be provided with participants leaving campus throughout the day.
